WASSCE subject guide
Programmes You Can Study with Biology
Biology is an official WASSCE elective subject. It is relevant to several health, agriculture and science routes, but Biology alone does not satisfy a complete admission requirement.

The Short Answer
Based on the Find My Uni GH dataset snapshot reviewed 2026-09-12, Biology appears in accepted elective lists for health sciences, agriculture, science education and some social or development programmes. The appropriate route depends on the programme's core subjects, other electives, minimum grades, aggregate and institution-specific conditions.
Routes where Biology may help
Current programme records list Biology among accepted electives for options such as Public Health, Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy, agricultural programmes and science education.
Some programmes accept a wider set of science or related electives, while others name a narrower combination. Read the programme row rather than relying on its category.
- Health routes may require Biology with Chemistry, Physics or another listed science elective.
- Agriculture and biotechnology routes may combine Biology with Chemistry, Physics or Elective Mathematics.
- Education routes can use Biology for science-related specialisms, subject to the provider's course structure.
Biology does not replace Chemistry
The matcher treats Biology and Chemistry as separate WAEC subjects. If a programme lists both or requires Chemistry specifically, a Biology result cannot automatically fill that requirement.
The same distinction applies to Physics and Elective Mathematics. Check the accepted elective list and the number of passes required.
- Enter Biology using the official WAEC subject name.
- Check whether Chemistry or Physics is also named.
- Review the recorded minimum grade and aggregate where one is listed.
Make a careful shortlist
Use the matcher to identify programmes whose recorded core and elective rules align with your full result. A near match may indicate one missing subject, not automatic acceptance.
Eligibility and admission are different decisions. The institution may check the current intake, certificates, equivalence and programme capacity.
- Shortlist programmes with a subject combination you can document.
- Open the institution's current admission notice before applying.
- Confirm current requirements with the institution, especially for regulated health training.
