WASSCE subject guide

Programmes You Can Study with Mathematics (Core)

Mathematics (Core) is one of the four official WASSCE core subjects in the shared catalogue. It can support many routes, but a pass alone does not establish admission eligibility.

The Short Answer

Based on the Find My Uni GH dataset snapshot reviewed 2026-09-12, Mathematics (Core) appears in the core requirements for computing, business, social science, education, health and engineering programmes. The result depends on your English Language, Integrated Science or Social Studies, relevant electives, grades, aggregate and the institution's rules.

What Mathematics (Core) can open

The current programme records include Mathematics (Core) among the core subjects for computing and information technology, business, social sciences and several education routes.

It also appears alongside science subjects in some health and engineering requirements. That does not mean every programme in one category accepts the same combination.

  • Computing examples include Computer Science and Information Technology.
  • Business and social science examples include Business Administration, Banking and Finance, and Development Planning.
  • Some health and engineering routes require Integrated Science and named electives in addition to Mathematics (Core).

Check the full subject combination

The matcher checks the core subjects listed for the programme, then counts only passing electives that match its accepted list. A strong Mathematics (Core) grade cannot replace a missing required elective.

Use the official labels on your certificate when comparing requirements. The shared catalogue separates Mathematics (Core) from Elective Mathematics, and they are not interchangeable.

  • Confirm English Language and the other listed core subjects.
  • Check whether the programme asks for Elective Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or another elective.
  • Review the stated minimum grade and any aggregate requirement separately.

How to use this information

Start with the Find My Uni GH matcher using your actual WASSCE subjects and grades. Compare more than one programme because requirements can vary between institutions offering similar qualifications.

Eligibility is an indication that the recorded rules may fit your results. It is not an admission offer, and an institution may apply additional selection or document checks.

  • Save the programme name, institution and source shown in the result.
  • Ask admissions whether the listed requirement applies to the current intake.
  • Confirm current requirements with the institution before applying or paying a fee.
