WASSCE subject guide

Programmes You Can Study with Physics

Physics is an official WASSCE elective subject used in many technical, engineering, computing and health requirements. A Physics pass does not replace the rest of the rule.

The Short Answer

Based on the Find My Uni GH dataset snapshot reviewed 2026-09-12, Physics appears in accepted elective lists for engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, health sciences, agriculture and some science routes. Eligibility still depends on core subjects, other electives, grades, aggregate and the institution's current conditions.

Where Physics appears

Current programme records list Physics for civil, mechanical, telecommunication, natural gas and environmental engineering routes, as well as several computing and health options.

Some programmes accept Physics as one of several electives. Others are more technical and may also list Elective Mathematics, Chemistry or ICT (Elective).

  • Engineering routes commonly show Physics with Elective Mathematics and Chemistry.
  • Computing routes may list Physics with Elective Mathematics or ICT (Elective).
  • Health and agriculture routes may accept Physics alongside Biology or Chemistry.

Distinguish Physics from technical alternatives

The shared WAEC catalogue lists Physics, Applied Electricity and Electronics as separate subjects. The matcher may show a possible similarity in limited cases, but that is guidance rather than a universal substitution.

Use the institution's wording for the current intake. A programme's accepted list, not a general assumption about science subjects, determines the recorded match.

  • Enter Physics with the grade shown on your certificate.
  • Check whether Elective Mathematics is required or merely one accepted option.
  • Ask the institution about any technical-subject alternative before relying on it.

Turn a subject into a shortlist

Run the matcher with all your core and elective results, then compare programmes within the same field. A programme may accept Physics but still be unsuitable if another core grade or aggregate condition is not met.

A qualifying match is not an admission guarantee. Check the current application route, documents and programme availability with the provider.

  • Review both exact matches and any clearly labelled near matches.
  • Read the source and admission-cycle information for each option.
  • Confirm current requirements with the institution before applying.
