BSc
Duration
4 years

Overview

You study how land and natural resources can be allocated and managed to support orderly settlements, economic activity and environmental protection. The programme is important in Ghana because unplanned development, flooding, land-use conflicts and pressure on natural resources affect many communities. It is worth pursuing if you want to guide sustainable spatial development.

What you will study

You cover spatial planning, land-use policy, urban and regional development, environmental management, planning law, GIS, remote sensing, settlement analysis and climate resilience. You also gain skills in spatial data analysis, mapping, development control, community consultation and preparing planning schemes.

Career prospects

You can become a land-use planner, spatial planner, GIS analyst, development control officer, environmental planning assistant or regional planning officer. Opportunities exist with the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority, assemblies, environmental consultancies, real estate companies, infrastructure projects, NGOs and sustainability-focused international organisations.

Who this programme may suit

You do well if you are interested in geography, communities, the environment and how places function. You should be organised, observant and willing to combine technical analysis with consultation and public decision-making.
