Overview
BSc Population and Health examines how health is shaped by communities, environments, behaviours, policies, and social conditions. It matters in Ghana because strong population-health knowledge supports better planning for disease prevention, health equity, maternal and child health, and sustainable development.
What you will study
You study epidemiology, biostatistics, demography, public-health research methods, health policy, environmental health, reproductive and child health, disease control, health promotion, and health information systems. You build skills in data collection, statistical analysis, programme planning, community assessment, research, and communicating health findings.
Career prospects
You can work as a public-health officer, health information officer, monitoring and evaluation officer, research assistant, programme coordinator, epidemiology assistant, or development project officer. Employers and sectors include Ghana Health Service, Ghana Statistical Service, universities, research institutes, NGOs, the Ministry of Health, international agencies such as UNICEF and WHO, and global development consultancies.
Who this programme may suit
You will thrive if you are curious about society, comfortable with data, and motivated by improving health for whole communities rather than only individual patients. Analytical thinking, cultural sensitivity, research interest, and clear communication are important.
