Overview

BSc Midwifery prepares you to provide skilled care to women, newborns and families before, during and after childbirth. It matters in Ghana because competent midwives help reduce preventable maternal and neonatal deaths while promoting safe, respectful and informed maternity care.

What you will study

You study maternal and newborn health, antenatal care, normal and complicated labour, postnatal care, reproductive health, pharmacology, community midwifery and emergency obstetric care. Clinical placements build skills in assessment, delivery, newborn resuscitation, breastfeeding support, counselling, documentation and teamwork.

Career prospects

You can work as a registered midwife, community midwife, maternity ward supervisor, reproductive health officer or maternal and child health coordinator. Employers include Ghana Health Service facilities, teaching and regional hospitals, private maternity hospitals, CHPS compounds, NGOs and international organisations such as UNICEF-supported health programmes.

Who this programme may suit

You will thrive if you are compassionate, calm under pressure and genuinely interested in pregnancy, childbirth and newborn care. Strong communication, practical judgement, resilience and respect for patient dignity are essential.
