Overview

BSc Spatial Planning teaches you how to organise land use, settlements, transport and public spaces for safe and productive communities. The programme is valuable in Ghana as towns and cities expand and require better planning to manage housing, flooding, congestion, mining activity and environmental pressures.

What you will study

You study urban and regional planning, land-use planning, settlement design, transport planning, environmental management, development control, planning law, geographic information systems and remote sensing. You also gain skills in mapping, spatial analysis, data collection, community consultation and preparing planning schemes.

Career prospects

You can work as a spatial planner, development control officer, GIS analyst, transport planner, land-use consultant or urban development specialist. Employers include metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies, the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority, mining companies, engineering consultancies, real estate firms and international urban development organisations.

Who this programme may suit

You thrive if you enjoy geography, maps, design, data and solving practical problems about how places should grow. Attention to detail, visual thinking, communication and an interest in sustainable communities are important.
