Overview

BSc Petroleum Geosciences and Engineering combines earth science with petroleum engineering to help you find, evaluate and develop oil and gas resources. This interdisciplinary training is valuable in Ghana because it supports responsible exploration and better decisions across the petroleum value chain.

What you will study

You study geology, geophysics, sedimentology, stratigraphy, petrophysics, basin analysis, seismic interpretation, well logging, reservoir engineering, drilling and production. You also learn to analyse subsurface data, build geological and reservoir models, assess reserves and consider safety, economics and environmental impacts.

Career prospects

You can work as a petroleum geoscientist, exploration geologist, geophysicist, petrophysicist, reservoir engineer, well-log analyst or subsurface modeller. Employers include GNPC, exploration and production companies, seismic contractors, drilling and oilfield service firms, geological consultancies and international energy organisations.

Who this programme may suit

You are suited to this programme if you enjoy earth science, mathematics, physics, maps, data and investigating what lies beneath the surface. Strong observation, analytical thinking, computer skills and curiosity about natural resources will help you excel.
