What you will study

You study mineralogy, petrology, structural geology, geophysics, engineering geology, rock mechanics, soil mechanics, hydrogeology and mineral exploration. Field mapping, laboratory testing, geological modelling and engineering analysis build your ability to evaluate sites and earth materials.

Career prospects

You can become a geological engineer, exploration geologist, mine geologist, geotechnical engineer, hydrogeologist or quarry consultant with mining companies, geological consultancies, construction firms and the Minerals Commission. International opportunities are available in mining, civil infrastructure, tunnelling, water resources and environmental consulting.

Who this programme may suit

You thrive if you enjoy outdoor investigation, Earth science, mathematics and solving problems using evidence from rocks and landscapes. Physical stamina, careful observation and a willingness to work in field environments are helpful.
