Overview

BSc Environmental Policy and Management combines environmental science with governance, planning and practical management. It is important in Ghana because sustainable decisions are needed for land, water, forests, waste, mining, energy and urban development while balancing livelihoods and economic growth.

What you will study

You study environmental law and policy, natural-resource management, environmental economics, impact assessment, climate change, planning and sustainability. You develop skills in policy research, stakeholder consultation, project management, environmental audits, geographic information systems and report writing.

Career prospects

You can work as an environmental policy analyst, sustainability officer, environmental-impact-assessment consultant, natural-resources manager, compliance officer or development-project coordinator. Potential employers include the Environmental Protection Agency, Forestry Commission, local assemblies, mining and energy companies, NGOs, consulting firms and international development organisations.

Who this programme may suit

You do well if you enjoy understanding both environmental problems and the decisions that shape them. Strong communication, negotiation, organisation and critical-thinking skills will help you work with communities, businesses and government.
