Overview

Disability and Rehabilitation Studies prepares you to support people living with disabilities to improve their independence, participation and quality of life. The programme matters in Ghana because inclusive rehabilitation can expand access to education, employment, healthcare and community life for people with physical, sensory, developmental and other support needs.

What you will study

You study disability studies, rehabilitation principles, anatomy, physiology, psychology, assistive technology, inclusion, counselling and community-based rehabilitation. You develop skills in functional assessment, rehabilitation planning, advocacy, teamwork and supporting families and caregivers.

Career prospects

You can work as a rehabilitation programme officer, disability support specialist, community rehabilitation worker, assistive technology officer, inclusion coordinator or rehabilitation research assistant, depending on professional requirements. Opportunities exist with hospitals, rehabilitation centres, the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations, NGOs, schools, social welfare services and international development agencies.

Who this programme may suit

You thrive if you are patient, respectful and committed to inclusion and human rights. Strong listening, teamwork, problem-solving and relationship-building skills are valuable.
