Overview

BSc Animal Science focuses on the scientific production, care and management of livestock and other farm animals. It matters in Ghana because demand for safe meat, milk, eggs and animal products is rising, while producers need better nutrition, breeding and health-management practices. You gain skills that support both commercial agriculture and food security.

What you will study

You study animal nutrition, breeding and genetics, physiology, anatomy, livestock production, pasture management and animal health. Practical training develops skills in herd management, feed formulation, housing, record-keeping, production analysis and sustainable livestock systems.

Career prospects

You can work as a livestock production officer, animal nutritionist, breeding technician, farm manager, feed-mill officer, poultry manager or agricultural extension officer. Employers include commercial poultry and dairy farms, feed companies, veterinary and animal-health businesses, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, research institutes and NGOs.

Who this programme may suit

You will thrive if you enjoy biology, animals, practical work and careful observation. Patience, compassion, physical stamina and strong attention to health and production details are important.
