Overview

BSc Special Education prepares you to support learners with disabilities and other special educational needs through evidence-based teaching and inclusive practice. The programme matters in Ghana because every learner deserves meaningful access to education, while schools and families need trained professionals who can remove barriers to learning and participation.

What you will study

You study educational psychology, assessment, inclusive education, learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, communication difficulties and approaches for learners with visual, hearing or physical impairments. You also build skills in differentiated instruction, assistive technology, behaviour support, individual education planning, counselling and practical teaching.

Career prospects

You can work as a special education teacher, inclusion coordinator, learning-support specialist or assessment officer in schools, special schools and Ghana Education Service programmes. Further opportunities exist with rehabilitation centres, hospitals, NGOs, disability organisations, international development agencies and education research or policy institutions.

Who this programme may suit

You thrive if you are patient, empathetic, observant and committed to treating every learner with dignity. Strong listening, creativity, emotional resilience and a willingness to adapt teaching methods are essential.
