Overview

You study how people develop, learn, think and behave, with strong relevance to education, guidance and wider social services. Psychology is important in Ghana because schools, families, workplaces and communities need informed approaches to learning, counselling, inclusion and wellbeing. It is worth pursuing if you want to connect psychological knowledge with education and human development.

What you will study

You cover developmental, educational, social, cognitive, biological and abnormal psychology, counselling foundations, assessment, research methods and statistics. You also build skills in observation, learner support, interviewing, report writing, data analysis and applying psychological principles in educational settings.

Career prospects

You can work as a guidance and counselling support officer, school wellbeing coordinator, HR officer, research assistant, social services officer or education project officer, subject to the requirements for regulated counselling and psychology roles. Employers include schools, the Ghana Education Service, universities, NGOs, youth organisations, hospitals and government social programmes.

Who this programme may suit

You do well if you enjoy supporting learners and communities and are patient when people face difficulties. Empathy, listening, communication, organisation and interest in learning are valuable strengths.
