Overview

BEd Visual Arts Education prepares you to teach visual arts while developing your own creative, technical and critical abilities. In Ghana, visual arts education preserves culture, encourages creative enterprise and gives learners skills that can lead to careers in design, crafts, media and the wider creative economy.

What you will study

You explore drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, graphic design, art history, Ghanaian art and creative production, according to your area of emphasis. Education modules cover curriculum planning, studio teaching, assessment, classroom management, instructional resources and supervised teaching practice.

Career prospects

You can become a visual arts teacher in public, private or international schools, including institutions managed by the Ghana Education Service. Other paths include artist, illustrator, graphic designer, textile or ceramic designer, art administrator, museum or gallery educator, creative entrepreneur and arts facilitator for cultural organisations and NGOs.

Who this programme may suit

You thrive if you are imaginative, observant and comfortable expressing ideas through images, materials and design. Persistence, openness to critique and the ability to encourage creativity in others are especially useful.
