Overview
BSc Materials Engineering teaches you how to select, develop and improve materials used in products, structures and industrial processes. At KNUST, it supports Ghana’s manufacturing, construction, mining, energy and technology ambitions by helping industries produce safer, stronger and more sustainable goods.
What you will study
You study metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, nanomaterials, materials processing, corrosion, failure analysis, thermodynamics and materials testing. Laboratory experiments and design projects build your skills in characterisation, quality assurance, product development and problem-solving.
Career prospects
You can work as a materials engineer, metallurgist, corrosion engineer, quality-control engineer, failure analyst or production engineer in mining, cement, manufacturing, oil and gas, construction and energy. International opportunities include aerospace, automotive, electronics, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing and materials research.
Who this programme may suit
You thrive if you are curious about why materials perform differently and enjoy combining chemistry, physics and engineering. Careful experimentation, analytical thinking and patience with laboratory work are valuable strengths.
