Overview

BSc Social Work prepares you to support individuals, families and communities facing social, emotional and economic difficulties. It is worth pursuing in Ghana because social workers are needed in schools, hospitals, child protection, mental health services, prisons and community programmes.

What you will study

You study human behaviour, social welfare policy, counselling, community development, child and family welfare, social work methods, psychology, sociology and research. Fieldwork helps you develop interviewing, case management, advocacy, assessment, documentation and intervention skills.

Career prospects

You can become a social worker, case manager, child protection officer, school social worker, rehabilitation officer or community outreach coordinator. You may work with the Department of Social Welfare, Ghana Health Service, hospitals, schools, correctional services, NGOs such as UNICEF partners and international humanitarian organisations.

Who this programme may suit

You thrive if you are compassionate, emotionally mature and comfortable supporting people through difficult situations. Strong listening, communication, problem-solving and ethical judgement are especially valuable.
